1Who we are

YUYU is a voice community — a voice is left at a place and waits for someone else, at another time, to walk near and hear it, and to reply. This policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect your information. By using the service, you agree to this policy.

2Information we collect

• Device identifier: A random device ID generated on first visit, used to recognize your device, prevent abuse and enforce rate limits. It does not contain personally identifiable information.
• Location: We request your location permission to show nearby voices and place your message at the right spot, reading an approximate latitude/longitude. You may decline, but then the core functions (posting and hearing nearby voices) will be unavailable.
• Voice messages: The audio you record and publish, together with the location and time.
• Browser & device info: Browser type, device model (User-Agent) and browser language, used to show you the interface in the matching language (Chinese/English).
• IP address: Automatically logged by the server, used to look up your country/city (shown as "Country·City" on your voices), for visit statistics and rate limiting.
• Client activity logs: Key actions (recording, locating, loading voices) are kept locally in your browser. They are only sent to us when you actively check "upload logs" in Feedback & Suggestions, to help troubleshoot. Whether to upload is your choice.
• Registration info: When you bind an email, we store your email and a nickname (the nickname is shown as the owner's name on your voices).
• Feedback content: The feedback or suggestions you submit to us.

3How we use it

• Provide core features: show nearby voices, publish, listen and reply with echoes;
• Show the message location (Country·City) and owner nickname on your voices;
• Prevent abuse and attacks (rate limiting, device verification);
• Improve the product and troubleshoot, when you have agreed to upload logs;
• Send necessary notices (e.g. when someone replies to your voice).

4Browser permissions

You can review or revoke these permissions at any time in your browser settings.

5Cookies & local storage

• Cookies: Store your device ID to recognize your device (HttpOnly, not readable by scripts).
• Local storage: Caches last location and permission status, kept only in your browser and never uploaded.

6Third-party services

We only call a third-party service (BigDataCloud) to look up a country/city from an IP. Beyond that, we do not sell, share or transfer your personal information to any third party, and we do not use advertising or tracking services.

7Storage & security

• Information is stored on our cloud servers (Vultr).
• We use device credential verification, rate limiting and encrypted transmission to protect data, and regularly harden security.
• While we make every effort, no method of transmission or storage over the Internet can be guaranteed 100% secure.

8Data retention

Voice messages are the core meaning of YUYU — they are kept permanently, waiting for future listeners. When you delete your account, your voice messages, registration information and related logs are removed.

9Your rights

• View and play your own voices;
• Delete a single voice;
• Delete your account and all your data;
• Revoke location, microphone and other permissions in your browser settings.

10Minors

If you are a minor, please use this service with the informed consent of a parent or guardian.

11Policy changes

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update this page and note the new effective date. Continued use of the service means you accept the updated policy.
